Our association was established in January 1968 as the Taiwan Plastic Slipper Exporters Association, with 19 member factories producing slippers and sandals. By 1965, the Taiwan Plastic Footwear Industry Association had 335 member factories producing plastic shoes. In 1967, it was reorganized into the Taiwan Footwear Industry Association, which included factories producing leather shoes, rubber shoes, and other types of shoes, in order to unify organizational management. By 1989, the total number of member factories reached 1,423. Subsequently, due to the drastic changes in the industry’s production and sales structure and the continuous relocation of industries overseas, the current number of members is 96, with 177 sponsoring members .
Established in 1980, the Taichung Training Center occupies over 2,000 pings (approximately 333 square meters). It has since been sold to the “Footwear Design and Sports & Leisure Technology R&D Center,” a joint venture between this association and the Industrial Development Bureau of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The center will handle the research and development, talent training, factory guidance, quality assurance, and design and development of the footwear industry. In 2016, it was renamed the Taiwan Footwear Manufacturers Association.
Over the past 30 years, guided by the vast demand in the international market, domestic footwear manufacturers have worked diligently, and relevant government agencies have provided active guidance. Our association has also actively handled international exchanges, investment guidance, marketing promotion, publishing, member services, and talent training, making Taiwan’s footwear industry one of the world’s leading suppliers of footwear.
